The Restorative Effects of Aromatherapy Baths

Taking time out for self care enables us to cultivate our energy, centre our being and position ourselves to create the life we wish to live. One of the simplest and most pleasurable ways to do this is with a therapeutic Aromatherapy bath.

The restorative effects of aromatherapy baths have been used for centuries dating back to Ancient Greece, Rome, Japan and Egypt. The pleasurable Aromatic Oils when combined with the warmth of the water are easily absorbed into the skin, nourishing the mind and allowing the body to access states of deep relaxation and renewal.

Often we bathe to prepare for a good night's sleep or simply to unwind and reduce stress, but there are many more reasons to make the time and create the space for an aromatherapy bath. Essential Oil Blends used in the bath may be helpful to ease sore muscles and joints, banish colds and flu, improve heart health, ease the discomforts of labor, improve dry skin and so much more. Best of all, whichever Aromatherapy Blend you choose, it will help bring a feeling of happiness and overall well-being.

In the past, we understood water to be more than just a substance...

We valued it highly and often religious homage was done to water as it was perceived to have a spiritual nature and to be approached with great reverence. Look at the way the Romans valued their time in the bath houses, and Japanese culture, like many other cultures, has developed ties between water and religion. People like Leonardo da Vinci, Goethe, Novalis and Hegel approached the true nature of water with inspired consciousness, understanding the wondrous life and rhythm of this vitally active element.

When we look closer at the water element and the multitude of benefits we can connect with using Essentials Oils, we learn that there’s more to Aromatherapy baths than meets the eye and we begin to understand why we often ‘feel like new’ after a good soak in the tub.

Baths may be relaxing or invigorating depending on the temperature of the water and the chosen Essential Oils added to the bath.

For a calming restorative bath, warm water is used. Some recommended LeRêve Essential Oils to soothe and relax include: Chamomile, Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang as well as Blends such as Love Story and Sweet Sleep

For an invigorating bath, cooler water is used. You can stimulate your circulation by using a bath mitt and rubbing your body in circular movements, preferably towards the heart. Essential Oils that refresh and stimulate include: Eucalyptus, Geranium, LemonPeppermint as well as Blends such as Brain Power, Breathe Easy and Celebration.

To create an aromatic bath, combine ten drops of your chosen Pure Essentials Oils with 20mL of Luxury Carrier Blend, or use 20mL of a pre-mixed Bath & Body Oil. Add your Essential Oil Blend to the bath as you step in. Immerse your body, close your eyes, breathe deeply and enjoy.

Whichever way we approach this ancient therapeutic practice, to invigorate our senses or to relax and calm the body and mind, an Aromatherapy bath is the perfect combination to take care of ourselves and improve our overall well being. There can be no doubt about value in taking the time out for some self care. Run the bath, turn down the lights, turn up the music, get some Candles on, add your favourite Essential Oils and tune out so you can tune in. Happy soaking!
