Breathe Better

Breathe Better

Take a deep breath.

Seriously. Right now.

Inhale slowly… and exhale.

Feels good, doesn’t it?

Breathing is something we do thousands of times every day without giving it much thought. It happens automatically, quietly working in the background while we go about our busy lives.

But taking a little more time to become aware of your breathing can be a beautiful way to pause, reset and reconnect with yourself.

So, let’s take a breath and explore a few simple ways to breathe better and feel a little more balanced.

Breathe deeply

Most of us spend our days rushing from one thing to the next, and our breathing can become shallow without us even noticing. Taking slow, deep breaths encourages us to pause and can help activate the body's relaxation response. It may help reduce feelings of stress and tension, slow your heart rate and leave you feeling calmer and more grounded. Think of it as a tiny reset button you can carry with you everywhere.

And the best part? It takes less than a minute.

Try this: relax your shoulders, close your eyes and breathe slowly in through your nose. Let your belly gently expand as you inhale, then slowly breathe out. Repeat a few times.

No meditation cushion required. No special equipment. Just you and your breath.

Breathe through your nose

Your nose isn't just there to smell your favourite LeRêve Essential Oil Blend — it's also designed to help prepare the air you breathe before it reaches your lungs. Breathing through your nose helps warm, humidify and filter the air, trapping some particles before they travel further into your respiratory system. Nasal breathing also plays a role in the production of nitric oxide, a molecule involved in blood vessel function and circulation.

Mouth breathing certainly has its place — particularly when you're exercising intensely or when your nose is blocked — but when you're simply relaxing, gently breathing through your nose is a great habit to practise.

So next time you catch yourself breathing through your mouth while sitting at your desk, watching TV or scrolling your phone, take a moment to close your lips and breathe slowly through your nose.

Try Box Breathing

Need to calm your mind quickly? Meet Box Breathing. Also known as square breathing, this simple breathing technique uses four equal stages to create a steady, rhythmic pattern. Here's how to do it:

1. Exhale – slowly breathe out for a count of four.

2. Hold – pause with your lungs comfortably empty for four.

3. Inhale – slowly breathe in for four.

4. Hold – pause with your lungs comfortably full for four.

Then start again. That's it!

You can practise Box Breathing almost anywhere — sitting at your desk, before a presentation, while travelling, before bed or whenever you feel like you need a little reset.

Even taking just a few slow cycles can help you step away from the rush of the moment and bring your attention back to your breathing. If holding your breath feels uncomfortable, don't force it. Simply return to slow, comfortable breathing.

Breathe with Essential Oils

There’s something incredibly uplifting about breathing in fresh, beautiful aromas. Think about walking beside the ocean, standing near a waterfall or taking a deep breath when you're surrounded by trees. The air feels fresh, the aromas are beautiful and suddenly you feel like you can breathe a little deeper.

While an essential oil diffuser can't recreate the air quality of a beach or forest, it can create a beautiful sensory experience in your home. An Ultrasonic Diffuser disperses tiny droplets of water and essential oil into the surrounding air, creating a gentle aromatic mist while adding some humidity to the room.

Try our Breathe Easy Pure Essential Oil Blend, featuring Peppermint, Lavender and Lemon. This is a calming blend that helps alleviate the symptoms of allergies, hay fever and upper respiratory ailments. It may provide symptomatic relief and management of sinusitis and rhinitis. It may also give temporary relief from bronchial coughs, colds, flu and mild respiratory infections. It makes breathing easier!

Take a breath

We spend so much of our lives rushing forward that sometimes the simplest form of self-care is simply to… Stop. Breathe. Reset.

So, wherever you are right now, take one more slow, beautiful breath. Inhale. Exhale.

And remember — wellness doesn't always have to be complicated.

Sometimes, it's as simple as taking a moment to breathe.
